Oof, what a day

I have a half hour before I need to go pick up Sabrina from school. I have a full to-do list but instead I am going to take a few minutes to tell you how my day has gone so far.

Sometime in the middle of the night: Sabrina woke me up and somehow ended up sleeping in my bed. I swear to you, I don't remember giving in to her. Or rather, I have a vague memory of telling her to get her pillow, but no memory of anything leading up to it. Or WHAT I WAS THINKING giving in to her. Alas.

Wake up time: After yesterday's rousing success with pictures and a timer, with a reward of watching an episode of Dora (getting everything done in time = enough time left), today was not a success at all. Getting dressed took 27 minutes. On the plus side, she did eat her breakfast and brush her teeth -- bad parent, I didn't watch her do this or follow after her for her back teeth, and put on lotion. So, not a total failure, but not great.

Getting to the car: Took 30 minutes. Seriously, to get all the way across town during rush hour takes 20 minutes. It should not take 30 minutes to get from one side of my apartment building to the other. Okay, so patience is a virtue, right? Well, if only the time were the only problem. You see, when we got to the elevator (I think it took 20 minutes to get from the apartment to the elevator, including some hitting me and shrieking, sorry neighbors) I didn't want Sabrina hitting all the buttons and going running around the building, so I hit the button for 1. Whereupon Sabrina threw herself on the floor and threw a tantrum. Still, fine. But when the elevator stopped, she kneeled, grabbed my leg, and chomped. Along with some more hitting.

Then she wouldn't hold my hand in the parking lot, I told her I was going to pick her up, she ran away from me and fell. When I tried to see if she was okay (she was), she kicked me in the chest.

Fast forward a few hours. I've been home, eaten more (so far today I've eaten 2 chocolate donuts, a bowl of shereal, and a bowl of pasta with oil), gone to the grocery store, and come back, at which point I smack my head into the corner of the front door to my apartment because the stupid "auto door closers" which were installed about 6 months ago do NOT close the door automatically. It is true that eventually the door will close, or at least mostly close, but SO S-L-O-W-L-Y that when I turned around after putting down one bag of groceries, the door was still there. I was planning on a nap anyway so I just took to bed with a bag of frozen broccoli (no ice pack).

And so goes my day. Waiting to see what befalls me this rainy afternoon.

  1. Hi, just found your blog today (or maybe yesterday). I know this is going to make me sound real bed and all but:

Do you think you at some point could explain very generally what the rules around food is when you are jewish? Just so that we (ok only me) non jewish readers that have no clue about anything jewish can have some sort of idea whats going on?

I mean i think i have figured out that you dont mix milk products with meat products?

    And also friday nights/saturdays?

Sorry for being so totally ignorant and knowing nothing about your religion (non believer raised in a christian home)
